All about me
Kirsten Aldridge | photographer
How did I find my passion for photography?
I began my study of photography, painting and art history at school and immediately developed a love for the visual arts. Many photographers these days are self trained, however I consider my education in the technical foundations of photography, the study of light and composition, and the art of creating emotive images that tell a story, a huge asset. I've continued learning my craft over the years and have spent a significant amount of time training to excel in my speciality of newborn, baby and family portraiture.
I am an award winning photographer:
Most recently, I won two silver awards in the 2019 APNPI International Photography Awards. These awards are for professional photographers who specialise in the the baby and family genre.
What is my photography style?
I like to create elegant and timeless portraits. I only use simple props such as blankets, bowls and fresh flowers. I have a beautiful selection of vintage style knit outfits and use soft neutral and pastel colours that compliment babies so perfectly. My focus is making your baby the star of the show. I take my time to pose my little clients so we can capture all their perfect details - capturing memories that you will treasure in the future.
Wherever possible I like to hold my family and celebration sessions outdoors and just before dusk, taking advantage of the beautiful early evening light and using our stunning Canterbury landscape as a backdrop.
I typically hold my maternity sessions in the studio where you can take advantage of my maternity wardrobe - and we don't have to worry about the weather - however if you would prefer to have your maternity shoot outdoors in a more informal style, similar to my family sessions, please just ask.
You will find examples of my photographic style in the galleries section. However, if there is something specific you have in mind, or if you have any questions about your portrait session more generally, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
I have been assessed and credited as
a Qualified Newborn Photographer by the APNPI
Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International
The rigorous accreditation process includes submitting
a newborn image portfolio for assessment and achieving 100% in an exam on the safe handling of newborns
Away from the studio:
I am Mum to two beautiful boys aged two and one. They provide endless portrait opportunities and our home is filled with wonderful photographic memories. After many years living in London, we recently bought our family home to Christchurch to be closer to our extended families and so that our boys could experience the great kiwi lifestyle we had growing up. This has enabled me to set up Kirsten Naomi Photography and share the gift of beautiful family photography with my Christchurch clients.
Lynley | photography assistant & florist
I work with a trained photography assistant during my studio photography sessions. This is particularly important for newborn and baby sessions, where Lynley is there to ensure the safety and comfort of your baby at all times.
Lynley is also a talented florist. If you choose to incorporate fresh flowers in your session, Lynley will create something very special for you.
